Sherman Park Centennial: 1910 - 2010
For 100 years, Sherman Park has served the city as a place of beauty and open space. In March of 1910, E.A. Sherman and his wife Katherine offered 52 acres of land to the city for a park. It was a wonderful piece of land, with the Big Sioux River winding its way through the land, and a high bluff located on the east side of the river. A large grove of trees graced the land along the river, and on the bluff overlooking the river were five ancient Indian burial mounds.
