Oakview Park is being designed as a nature-type park to compliment the tree belt and wildlife area on the northeast side of the park. The master plan consists of building a lighted concrete pathway winding through the middle of the park. The path will create a walking loop from the library to the north end of the park and back along Bahnson Avenue. There will be benches and overlook areas along the trail to observe wildlife and provide shade.
The east side of the path will be seeded with native grass species to match the areas around the Oak View branch library. The west side of the path will be mowed turf grass. There will also be mowed paths off of the concrete paths for those who would like to walk through the tree belt and get closer to nature. The rest of the plan would include a retaining wall on the north end of the park and other various landscaping features.
The City of Sioux Falls Park and Recreation Department encourages you to review the master plan and give us any comments or suggestions. The park development is not scheduled in the current 5-year Capital Improvement Program. It will be scheduled based on funding availability and the pace of development in the surrounding area. Thank you for your interest in the City of Sioux Falls Park system.
