Sioux Falls Community Garden 2010 Season

The Sioux Falls Community Garden was designed for people like you — renters without access to land, or homeowners with yards that are too small or too shady for a garden. There are no income requirements. Scholarships are available if the $15 garden fee is prohibitive.

People who choose to be community gardeners are expected to maintain their garden plots for the entire growing season and to provide volunteer help in preparing the garden sites with activities such as staking plots and applying organic mulch. Gardeners are also expected to clean their plots at the end of each growing season. The Sioux Falls Community Garden is a cooperative effort involving the City of Sioux Falls, Minnehaha County Master Gardeners, Minnehaha County Extension Service, and a dedicated group of volunteers, including more than 200 individual gardeners.

Garden placement is on a first-come, first-served basis with priority given to people who successfully gardened in the Sioux Falls Community Garden program last year.

If you are interested in becoming a 2010 Community Gardener, please click on the Guidelines and Application at the right. The application deadline for a 2010 Community Garden plot is April 1, 2010. Gardeners, whose applications have been approved, will receive notification and an invoice for $15 by May 1, 2010. Unsuccessful applicants will be notified of their status by May 1, 2010.

If you had a Community Garden plot in 2009 and have already been contacted by the Sioux Falls Community Garden committee, it is not necessary for you to fill out another application.
